Gasper, Theetge earn NEC weekly honors

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Mickey Gasper (Merrimack, N.H.) and sophomore Steve Theetge (Syracuse, N.Y.) have earned weekly honors from the Northeast Conference after helping the Bryant University baseball team go 3-2 last week.

Gasper picked up his second NEC Player of the Week honor of the season, while Theetge was named NEC Co-Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career.

In five games, Gasper hit .368 (7-for-19) with a double, two home runs, 10 RBI and five runs scored. He broke a 4-4 tie against Quinnipiac with a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning. Against CCSU, he had six hits, seven RBI and a .471 OBP in four games. Gasper recorded at least two hits and two RBI in three of the four games against the Blue Devils. He hit a two-run home run in the first game, singled home two runs in the second game of the series and added two more hits and two RBI in the series finale.

Theetge twirled the second complete-game shutout of his career on Saturday vs. CCSU. He surrendered just four hits, walked two and struck out three over seven innings to earn his league-leading fifth win of the year. Theetge worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the second and struck out a batter to strand two in the third, starting a stretch in which he retired 13 of the final 14 batters he faced. The lone man to reach came via an error.

The Bulldogs begin a 10-game homestand on Wednesday when they welcome Boston College to Conaty Park. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
