Wright picks up third NEC Rookie of the Week honor

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University baseball freshman Chris Wright (Cumberland, R.I.) has been named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week after helping the Bulldogs to a four-game sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson, it was announced by the league Monday.

Wright picks up his third rookie of the week honor after going 8-for-15 (.533) with five RBI, five runs scored, three hit by pitches, two walks and a .600 OBP.

He opened the weekend with a career-high four hits and reached base safely all six times. Combined with his final three at-bats from the final game against Central Connecticut, Wright reached base safely in nine-straight at-bats. The stretch ended in the first game Saturday, but Wright was able to score a run. Wright had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored in game two of the doubleheader. He delivered a sac fly in the first inning of the series finale before hitting a two-strike, two-out single to right field in the ninth. The single extended the game for Jimmy Titus (Stafford, Conn.) and Titus delivered a walk-off home run to complete the sweep.

Wright is now hitting .293 and his 28 RBI are tied with Titus for the most by an NEC rookie this year.

In addition, sophomore Nick Angelini (Bedford, N.H.) and junior Jack Patterson (Suffield, Conn.) were recognized as Prime Performers. Angelini hit .429 with three doubles, a triple, four RBI, seven runs scored, six walks, no strikeouts, four stolen bases and posted a .600 OBP. Patterson tossed a complete game (7 inn.) shutout on Saturday in his first start in two years. He tied his career high with eight strikeouts.
