Summer ball wrap: Lacey, Hart win titles

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The 2018 summer baseball season has concluded for the Bryant University baseball team. It was another successful summer as two Bulldogs claimed summer league titles.  

Highlights

• Senior Craig Lacey (Westfield, Mass.) and junior Bryan Hart (Franklin, Mass.) both helped their teams win league titles this summer. Lacey was a part of the Valley Blue Sox's second-straight NECBL title, while Hart was a member of the NYCBL Champion Onondaga Flames. 
• In addition to the two titles, seven other Bulldogs helped their teams reach the playoffs. 
• Lacey pitched in 11 games for Valley this summer, going 1-0 with a 5.52 ERA in 14 2/3 innings. He allowed one run or less in all but one outing. 
• Hart finished the summer with 41 hits, a .273 average, 12 doubles, five triples, two home runs, 26 RBI, 29 runs scored and 16 stolen bases. He posted 11 multi-hit games and stole multiple bases four times. 
• Bryant's everyday first baseman in 2018, junior Chris Wright (Cumberland, R.I.) opened a lot of eyes with his performance on the mound in Cape Cod League this summer. Wright appeared in seven games for Brewster, going 2-0 with a 1.84 ERA in 14 2/3 innings. He struck out 24, walked five and allowed just six hits. Wright pitched three perfect innings of relief to help the Whitecaps advance to the East Division finals. 
• Senior Nathan Wrighter (Windsor, N.Y.) was lights out for Newport in the NECBL, finishing the year with a league-leading nine saves. He pitched in 20 games and posted a 2.16 ERA in 25 innings. Wrighter walked 10, struck out 28 and only allowed runs in three of his 20 outings. Wrighter earned the Joe Nathan Top Relief Pitcher Award following the completion of the season. 
• Redshirt sophomore Ryan Ward (Millbury, Mass.) kept hitting for Ocean State in the NECBL, finishing the season with a .305 average. He posted 53 hits, seven doubles, six home runs, 33 RBI and 33 runs scored. Ward struck out just 18 times in 194 at-bats and also stole 13 bases. He finished in the top 10 in the NECBL in hits, RBI and runs scored.  
• Classmate Justin Snyder (Georgetown, Mass.) pitched well in six appearances for Nashua in the Futures League. He went 1-1 with a 2.86 ERA in a summer that included back-to-back outings in which he tossed six scoreless innings. Snyder walked just five in 22 innings.
