Wright named NEC Pitcher of the Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University baseball junior Chris Wright (Cumberland, R.I.) was named the Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.

Wright was dominant in relief against CAA preseason favorite Elon. Pitching in the series opener and the finale, the 6-foot-1 southpaw earned a save and a win while totaling 4.0 hitless innings. Wright was virtually untouchable in a pair of tight games, recording 10 of 12 outs via strikeout. He was summoned from the bullpen with Bryant protecting a 6-4 lead in the eighth inning of the series opener. Inheriting a two-out situation with one runner on, Wright proceeded to fan Elon's No. 2 hitter Garrett Stonehouse. Prior to the inning-ending strikeout, Stonehouse had reached base in each of his prior four at-bats. Facing the heart of the order, Wright secured the save by striking out the side in the ninth. Wright's toughest task came with Elon eyeing down a walk-off win in the 13th inning of the series rubber game. Moving from first base to the bump, Wright took the ball with one out and two runners on. He registered back-to-back punchouts to strand the winning run on second base. He stayed on to pitch a 1-2-3 14th inning and worked around two walks to record a scoreless 15th.
