Theetge earns NEC Pitcher of the Week honors

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University baseball senior Steve Theetge (Syracuse, N.Y.) has been named the Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Theetge set Bryant's career wins record by firing 7.0 scoreless frames in the series opener against Sacred Heart. The senior southpaw, who is 23-2 lifetime against NEC teams, kept the Pioneers off balance during his final regular season start. Theetge allowed only four singles while blanking SHU during his time on the mound. Pitching to an 0.86 WHIP, he issued only two free passes and fanned three batters. After Jake Frasca's one-out single in the sixth inning, Theetge retired five batters in a row and handed a 10-0 lead over to the Bryant bullpen.

In addition, redshirt sophomore Ryan Ward (Millbury, Mass.) and senior Nathan Wrighter (Windsor, N.Y.) were named NEC Prime Performers. Ward wrapped up a big weekend with a multi-homer game at Sacred Heart, setting the DI single-season home run record in the process. Wrighter tossed five scoreless innings in the series finale against the Pioneers, walking one and posting four strikeouts.
