Klosterman tabs Pelletier, Hurvul as assistants

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University baseball head coach Ryan Klosterman has announced the addition of Eric Pelletier and Teddy Hurvul to the coaching staff for the upcoming year.

Pelletier and Hurvul bring 16 seasons of collegiate coaching experience to Bryant. The duo will serve as co-recruiting coordinators, while Pelletier will work with the hitters and Hurvul will serve as the pitching coach.

"I'm really excited to welcome two of the Northeast's most respected recruiting coordinators to our program," Klosterman said. "They have a track record of identifying and developing players at a very high level. Their resumes speak volumes in their respective areas of expertise, but their work ethic and personalities made them a perfect fit for the Bryant Baseball program moving forward!"

Pelletier has spent the last four seasons at Marist College, most recently serving as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. He helped the Red Foxes post three-straight winning seasons and helped guide Marist to the 2017 MAAC Championship and the NCAA Gainesville (Fla.) Regional. The Red Foxes improved offensively in each of Pelletier's four seasons and enjoyed the best offensive season in the MAAC this past spring. Marist was first or second in the league in average (1st, .288), home runs (2nd, 43), OBP (1st, .379), scoring (1st, 6.5), slugging (2nd, .418) and stolen bases (2nd, 97). The Red Foxes featured four First Team All-MAAC selections this past spring.

"Having competed against Bryant throughout my career, as both a coach and player, I have always been impressed with the program's commitment to winning and development. I am very grateful to coach Klosterman for giving me this opportunity and can't wait to get to work with this talented group of young men."

In addition to his time at Marist, Pelletier has also made coaching stops at UMass Lowell, Southern New Hampshire and Keystone. Under Pelletier's guidance, Danny Mendick was drafted in the 22nd round of the 2015 MLB Draft at UMass Lowell. Pelletier helped lead Southern New Hampshire to the DII College World Series and Keystone to the DIII College World Series. He also spent a summer in the Cape Cod League, coaching for the YD Red Sox in 2012.

Pelletier played four years at Southern New Hampshire, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Sport Management. He served as the team captain and was named the team's MVP as a senior in 2010.

Hurvul comes to Smithfield after serving as the pitching coach at Fairfield for the last four seasons, helping the Stags win 30+ games three times and win the 2016 MAAC Championship. The Stags featured one of the regions top pitching staffs during Hurvul's tenure, leading the MAAC in ERA (3.88), hits allowed per nine (8.14), shutouts (5), strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.08) and walks allowed per nine (3.55) in 2019. Fairfield led the MAAC in K:BB ratio and finished first or second in ERA in each of Hurvul's four seasons.

In his four seasons at Fairfield, Hurvul coached five All-MAAC pitchers, one NEIBA Pitcher of the Year and two pitchers that were selected in the top 15 rounds of the MLB Draft. Fairfield's pitching staff averaged 370 strikeouts per season, including a program-record 422 in 2019.

Prior to his time at Fairfield, Hurvul spent three seasons leading the pitching staff of Washington College, helping the Shoremen to record a 3.35 ERA, their lowest since entering the Centennial Conference in 1994. Additionally, rising senior Dan Jarrell was named the team's MVP in 2015, the first time in over five seasons a pitcher received that distinction.
 
Like Pelletier, Hurvul has also spent a summer as a coach in the Cape Cod League. In 2014, Hurvul helped develop two Cape Cop League All-Stars as the Braves were named the President's Cup Champions.
 
Before getting into coaching, Hurvul was a left-handed pitcher at UCONN during one their most successful year in recent school history. In 2011, the Huskies would win the Big East Regular Season Championship and advance to the Super Regional, finishing the season ranked 11th in the country. Hurvul would be named to the Big East All-Academic team during that season and in 2012.
 
Hurvul graduated from UCONN in 2012 with a major in Coaching and Administration. He also received a minor in Business Administration. At Washington College, Hurvul earned a Masters of Art in History in 2014.
