Mattison named NEC Pitcher of the Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Bryant University baseball senior Tyler Mattison was named the Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.

Mattison turned in a masterful start against second-place Central Connecticut. Taking the ball for the Friday opener of a three-game series between the top two teams in the NEC standings, Bryant's senior right-hander fired his first career 9-inning complete game while striking out 10+ batters for the second straight start. Going the distance in a 4-2 victory, Mattison blanked the Blue Devils for the first 7.2 frames until a two-out eighth-inning single ended his shutout bid. He held CCSU to six hits, including five singles. Mattison registered 12 strikeouts while issuing two free passes. He retired the first nine batters of the game in succession. The 6-foot-4 righty logged five 1-2-3 innings.

In addition, Liam McGill was named an NEC Prime Performer. McGill went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three RBI in game two of Bryant's series with CCSU.
