Baseball Season Preview: Infield

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University baseball team opens its 2022 season on Friday, February 18 in Greenville, North Carolina. BryantBulldogs.com previews the 2022 team leading up to Opening Day.

Position: Infielders
Returners: Jake Gustin, Logan Allen, Tommy DiTullio, Michael Stellato, Lewis Barnum, Stan DeMartinis III
Newcomers: Carmine Petosa, Randy Carlo, Cole Wojtkowski

The Breakdown

The return of Jake Gustin highlights Bryant's 2022 infield. Gustin put together NEC Player of the Year numbers a season ago but teammate Liam McGill ended up winning the NEC triple crown and led the country in batting average and OBP. Now, the stage is Gustin's. The Peabody, Mass., native hit .386 with 13 doubles, six home runs, 36 RBI and 46 runs scored. Gustin finished with 101 total bases and was ranked as one of the top second basemen in all of college baseball by D1Baseball.com.

Bryant will also get its first taste of Logan Allen this spring. The Bridgeport transfer missed all of last season with an injury but brings a veteran presence, strong defense and outstanding baserunning ability to the Black and Gold. Joining Allen around the infield will be junior Tommy DiTullio, a three-year veteran that has appeared in 54 games the last two seasons. He has posted a .923 fielding percentage in his career.

The Bulldogs will also welcome back Michael Stellato, Lewis Barnum and Stan DeMartinis III to the infield. Stellato spent part of last season as Bryant's starting first baseman, while Barnum and DeMartinis will look to break into the lineup as sophomores.

Carmine Petosa joins the Bryant infield from Wake Forest. The New Jersey native brings a strong plate discipline to the Black and Gold. Randy Carlo and Cole Wojtkowski also join Petosa as newcomers to the Bryant infield.
