How it Happened

  • The Sharks struck first on Saturday, scoring three times in the top of the third. With one out and two on, Bryant starter Jared Burrows fielded a soft comebacker but threw wildly to third. The throwing error allowed two runs to scored. A sac fly made it 3-0.
  • Bryant immediately answered, scoring four times in the bottom half of the inning. Phinney opened the inning with a laser over the left field wall and the Bulldogs then loaded the bases with one out. Lane's hard smash to short was knocked down but no play was made, allowing a run to score. Woods followed with an RBI single and Logan Allen walked two batters later to force in a run to make it 4-3.
  • It remained 4-3 until the eighth. Allegretti retired the first two batters before an infield single extended the inning. Price then stepped up and hit a 3-2 pitch inside the left field line. Pinch runner Myles Proctor scored from first to tie the game. After a walk, Surrett hit a line drive to center that was misplayed. The ball carried further than expected, going all the way to the wall for a two-run triple.
  • Bryant would put the first two runners on in the bottom of the inning but LIU reliever Nick Torres struck out the next three. In the ninth, Woods' drive to center was caught at the base of the wall to end the game.
