Frasier Day: Frasier pitches Bryant past LIU on Sunday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Logan Frasier struck out six over 6.0 scoreless innings and the Bryant University baseball team held on for a 5-3 victory and a series win over Long Island University on Sunday afternoon at Conaty Park.

With the win, the Bulldogs have now won or tied 80 of 84 Northeast Conference series.

Frasier was locked in on Sunday, striking out six and scattering four hits over 6.0 scoreless. He's now allowed one run on six hits and has struck out 12 over his last two starts (11.0 innings). Coleman Picard earned his first save, striking out four batters in 2.0 scoreless innings of relief.

Logan Allen and Alex Lane led the offense with a pair of hits each. Allen was 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Lane was 2-for-3 with an RBI double and two runs scored.

  • Bryant scored in each of the first three innings, with Allen's two-out, two-run single making it 3-0 in the second.                        

How it Happened

  • Bryant opened the scoring in the first as Allen was hit by a pitch and came around to score as Lane doubled off the middle of the fence in center.
  • In the second, the first two Bulldogs reached and were advanced into scoring position with two outs. Allen then smacked a soft ground ball through the right side of the infield, beating the LIU shift and driving in a pair of runs.
  • The Bulldogs extended their lead in the third as John Tuccillo brought home Lane with a ground out to short.
  • Damaurys Rodriguez made it a 5-0 lead in the fifth, bringing home Lane with a sac fly to right.
  • The Sharks cut into the deficit with three runs in the seventh. EJ Exposito brought home the first run with a single through the left side and Luke Turner followed with a two-run single.   
  • LIU then put a runner on in the eighth but Allen snared a line drive off the bat of Carlton Harper and threw back to first to double off the runner.
  • Bryant added an insurance run in the eighth. With runners on first and second, Randy Carlo hit a ground ball between third and short. Carlo was safe at first on the play and Rodriguez raced around and scored all the way from second to make it 6-3.
  • Picard then struck out the side in the 9th to close the door.

  • Frasier tossed 6.0 scoreless innings. He allowed four hits, walked three and struck out six.
  • The six strikeouts matched a career-high set last week vs Rhode Island.
