Lowe signs with Miami Marlins

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Bryant University baseball graduate student Collin Lowe signed a free agent contract with the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.

The signing comes after the completion of the MLB Draft and makes Lowe the second Bulldog in as many years to sign a free agent contract (Tyler Schoff).

Lowe's lone season in Smithfield was a great one as the right-hander earned All-Northeast Conference First Team, All-New England and All-ECAC honors. He finished 5-4 with a 2.79 ERA in 80.2 innings. He struck out 79 and allowed just 16. Lowe allowed two runs or less in eight of his 14 starts. He started his summer with the Newport Gulls in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Lowe is 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA and 39 strikeouts in just 28.0 innings.

Bryant has now had 29 players either drafted or signed in program history. Currently, the Bulldogs have nine alums playing professional baseball, including James Karinchak with the Cleveland Guardians.
