Bulldogs swept in Saturday DH at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Bryant University baseball team was swept in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against Liberty.

The Flames won game one 10-3, and completed the sweep with a 10-3 win in game two. Bryant and Liberty close the series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

  • The Flames broke open a close game with a five-run fifth inning.             

How it Happened (Game 1)

  • The Flames posted single runs in the first, third and fourth innings.
  • In the fifth, Guy plated two with a single and Castillo capped the inning with a two-run triple.
  • Bryant would get on the board with three runs in the eighth. Zac Zyons tripled home Kaden Hilburger and Lewis Barnum before scoring on a double from Sam Sinisgalli.

  • The Flames hit a pair of home runs in a five-run first and never looked back.

How it Happened (Game 2)

  • Bryant scored first in game two as John Hosmer scored Derek Smith with a sac fly.
  • In the bottom of the first, Foster hit a three-run home run and Hertzler followed with a two-run shot to make it 5-1.
  • The Flames would add a run in the second and two more in the third.
  • Brian Schaub clubbed an RBI double off the right field wall in the top of the sixth.
  • In the seventh, Bryant loaded the bases with one out and was able to plate a run on a sac fly from Gavin Noriega.

  • Picard allowed three runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out three over 4.0 innings in game one.
  • Jackson Vanesko allowed two unearned runs and struck out two in 2.0 innings of relief.
  • Zyons is now 2-for-3 on the year with a home run, triple and three RBI.
