Bryant completes weekend sweep with DH sweep on Saturday

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Bryant University baseball team completed a series sweep of Davidson with 15-5 and 11-1 victories in Saturday's doubleheader at Wilson Field.

With the wins, the Bulldogs improve to 5-7 on the year. The sweep also marks Bryant's first-ever series sweep of an Atlantic-10 member. Bryant posted 26 runs and 25 hits in Saturday's twinbill.

John Hosmer, Caden Dulin, Lewis Barnum and Gavin Noriega highlighted the offensive outburst for the Black and Gold, combining for 17 hits, 17 RBI and 15 runs in the two games.

On the mound, Coleman Picard and Ken Turner both turned in solid outings to pick up victories. Picard struck out 10 over 6.0 innings, while Turner tossed 5.0 innings of one-run ball.

Key Moment (Game 1)

  • With Bryant leading 3-1, Dulin produced a bases-clearing three-run double to make it 6-1 in the third.

How it Happened (Game 1)

  • Bryant struck first in the opener, scoring twice in the first inning. Noriega drove in Derek Smith with a double and then came across on a Hosmer single to make it 2-0.
  • Davidson got a run back in the bottom of the first on a solo home run.
  • The Bulldogs expanded their lead with four runs in the third and four more in the fourth. In the third, Noriega walked and came around to score on a Carmine Petosa single. The Bulldogs then loaded the bases and Dulin cleared them with a three-run double to left.
  • In the fourth, Brian Schaub launched his second home run of the season, a two-run shot, to make it 8-1. Barnum added an RBI double to right center and Dulin capped the inning with a two-out RBI single.
  • The Wildcats added a run in the bottom of the fourth but Picard ended the rally as he snared a comebacker and turned it into a double play.
  • Bryant got the run back, scoring a pair of runs in the sixth on a passed ball and a wild pitch.
  • Hosmer closed the scoring for Bryant, clobbering a solo home run in the top of the eighth and then plating two more with a single in the ninth.

Inside the Box Score (Game 1)

  • Picard allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits over 6.0 innings. He struck out 10 and walked just one.
  • Liam LeVangie and Logan Frasier combined to close it out. LeVangie allowed two runs in 2.0 innings, while Frasier pitched a scoreless ninth. The duo combined to strikeout six.
  • Dulin finished 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI.
  • Schaub homered and drove in two.
  • Noriega reached safely five times with two hits and three walks, scoring four times.

  • Dulin once again found himself in the middle of the offense, driving home two runs in a five-run first for the Bulldogs.

How it Happened (Game 2)

  • Bryant wasted little time in game two as Gustin was hit by a pitch and came around to score on an RBI single from Hosmer. Dulin made it 3-0 with a two-run single and came around to score on an RBI double from Barnum. Jacob Gaudreau followed with an RBI double, his first-career hit, to right center, to score Barnum with the fifth run.
  • Bryant extended its lead in the third as Barnum doubled home Dulin (BB) and Matt Smith (1B).
  • Davidson plated a run in the third to make it 7-1.
  • Noriega responded with a long solo home run in the top of the fourth to make it 8-1.
  • Gustin added an RBI double in both the sixth and seventh innings as Bryant closed out the scoring.

Inside the Box Score (Game 2)

  • Turner allowed just one run on four hits in 5.0 innings to earn the win. He walked one and struck out three.
  • Brett Wichrowski tossed the final 2.0 innings to close it out.
  • Barnum finished 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. He also scored twice.
  • Dulin posted a pair of RBI and scored twice.
  • Noriega homered and scored twice.
  • Gustin had three hits, including a pair of RBI doubles.
