Bryant downs Brown, 5-1, on Wednesday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Lewis Barnum and Caden Dulin hit the first home runs of their careers to lead the Bryant University baseball team to a 5-1 victory over Brown on Wednesday afternoon at Murray Stadium.

With the win, the Bulldogs even their record at 8-8 as they head into America East play this weekend. Wednesday also marked the fourth-straight game between Bryant and Brown, with the Black and Gold winning three of four.

Barnum and Dulin each homered, reached safely three times and scored twice for the Bulldogs.

Making his first start of the season, Vanesko allowed just a pair of hits over 3.0 scoreless innings. Vanesko and six Bryant relievers combined to limit Brown to just four hits on the afternoon.

Key Moment

  • With Bryant leading 3-0 in the third, the Bears put runners on second and third with one out. Vanesko snared a comebacker to keep the runners from advancing and then got out of the inning to keep the Bears off the board.

How it Happened

  • Bryant scored in the first inning as Smith walked and came around to score on a two-out single up the middle from Petosa.
  • In the second, Barnum launched a long two-run home run to left center to make it 3-0.
  • Vanesko kept Brown off the board for the first three innings, working out of a jam in the first and third inning. In the first, he picked off a runner to help end a first and third threat. In the third, he snared a comebacker as he pitched his way out of a second and third jam.
  • Derek Smith pushed Bryant's lead to 4-0 as he punched a two-out single through the right side to score Barnum.
  • The Bears were able to push a run across in the fourth off Tyler Tornberg. Tornberg limited the damage, striking out the side.
  • Brown then loaded the bases in the sixth against Mark Scamardella. Liam LeVangie entered with two outs and induced an inning-ending ground out to escape the threat.
  • Dulin plated Bryant's final run of the afternoon as he lifted his first-career home run over the left field wall in the eighth.
