Wichrowski leads Bryant past UAlbany in game one Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Brett Wichrowski struck out seven over 5.1 innings of one-run ball to lead the Bryant University baseball team to a 10-1 victory over UAlbany in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Conaty Park.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 18-16 overall and 8-6 in America East play. Bryant has now won five-straight games and have won back-to-back league series.

Wichrowski picked up his team-leading fourth win of the year with another dominant outing. He allowed one run on four hits, walked three and struck out seven. Liam LeVangie recorded the final five outs to close the door.

Offensively, Bryant's bottom three in the order – Matt Smith, Justin Hackett and Zac Zyons – combined to go 5-for-6 with three RBI and three runs scored. Carmine Petosa added three hits and two RBI.

How it Happened

  • Bryant got on the board in the third as Petosa dunked a 3-2 pitch into center field. Lewis Barnum was off from first on the pitch and streaked around to score.
  • Zyons started Bryant's six-run inning with a two-run single up the middle. A bases-loaded walk brought in the third run and a sac fly to right from Barnum made it 5-0. Petosa picked up an RBI single and James Myler brought home a run with a safety squeeze to give Bryant a 7-0 lead.
  • A two-run double from Jackson Phinney and a sac fly from Hackett rounded out the Bryant scoring in the sixth.
