Zyons named All-New England

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Bryant University baseball redshirt freshman Zac Zyons has been named to the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association All-New England Second Team as a utility player.

Zyons was named to the second team as a utility player after appearing in 40 games, starting 29 games at five different positions. He started 11 games in right, seven at third, five in center, four at short and two in left field. Zyons hit .293 with five doubles, three triples, four home runs, 20 RBI and 35 runs scored. He was also hit 16 times and finished the year with a .438 OBP.

The South Kingstown, R.I., native started his collegiate career with a bang, homering on the first pitch of his first collegiate at-bat at No. 14 Virginia Tech. Zyons became an every day player for the Black and Gold over the last half of the season, starting each of the final 20 games. He hit a team-best .379 (25-for-66) with nine extra-base hits, 17 RBI, 28 runs scored, a .511 OBP and seven stolen bases over those 20 games. Zyons collected a hit in each of the first 13 games of that stretch, including four-straight two-hit games. He also made one of the best catches in college baseball this season, leaping into the right field wall against Merrimack. The play landed him on ESPN Sportscenter Top 10.
