Bulldogs drop series finale with GW

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Bryant University baseball team dropped its series finale with George Washington, 16-3, on Sunday afternoon at Tucker Field.

With the loss, the Bulldogs are now 1-3 on the season. Bryant returns to field on Tuesday when it hosts Stonehill at Conaty Park. It will be the earliest home opener in program history.

GW used a pair of three-run innings to build a lead and then put the game away with a seven-run seventh.

Gavin Noriega picked up two hits and seven other Bulldogs collected hits. Daniel Baruch collected his first hit and RBI as a Bulldog. Jack Pletter, the sixth pitcher of the afternoon, pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in his Bryant debut.

  • Sam Gates hit a three-run home run to give GW a 6-1 lead in the fourth inning.

How it Happened

  • The Revolutionaries scored three runs on four hits in the first inning. GW produced an RBI double, an RBI ground out and a run-scoring single.
  • Bryant pushed across a run in the top of the fourth. Carmine Petosa walked and came around to score on a Gavin Greger single.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Gates pushed GW's lead to 6-1 with a three-run home run.
  • Petosa brought home Matt Smith with an RBI single to make it 6-2 in the fifth.
  • GW would score a run and then load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fifth. Sean Zaslaw was able to escape further trouble with two strikeouts and a ground out.
  • The Revolutionaries added two runs in the sixth and seven more runs in the seventh. All seven runs in the seventh were unearned.
  • Bryant scored its final run in the ninth as Baruch singled home Noriega in his first at-bat of the season.

  • GW took the three-game series, 2-1. It was the first three games the two programs had played against each other.
