Bryant sweeps Brown on Saturday in Providence

PROVIDENCE – The Bryant baseball team swept a doubleheader from Brown on Saturday, winning game one 17-8 and then taking the nightcap, 3-2, in 10 innings.

With the victories, the Bulldogs improve to 7-9 on the season. Bryant has clinched the series and will go for the sweep on Sunday at Conaty Park.

In game one, Bryant erupted for a season-high 17 runs on 17 hits to defeat the Bears. Bryant then built a 2-0 lead in game two before the Bears tied it in the ninth. Gavin Noriega's single in the top of the 10th scored the game-winning run.

Key Moments (Game 1)

  • Bryant turned a 4-1 deficit into a 6-4 lead with a five-run fifth inning. Gavin Greger capped the big inning with his first-career home run, a two-run shot that made it 6-4.

How it Happened

  • Bryant grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second as Zac Zyons brought home Shea Grady with a single to right center.
  • The Bears tied the game with a solo home run in the third and then took the lead with three runs in the fourth. Mika Petersen broke the tie with a single up the middle, while Brady Dever's sinking liner to right fell, scoring two.
  • Bryant quickly responded with five runs in the fifth. Chris Einemann singled up the middle and Zyons walked to put two on. Noriega then followed off a pair of 2-2 pitches before lacing a two-run double into left center. Two batters later, Daniel Baruch tied the game with a double to left center. Greger then greeted reliever Ryan Oshinskie with a two-run home run to right center.
  • The Black and Gold then extended the lead with three runs in the sixth and six runs in the seventh. In the sixth, Einemann brought home Grady with a double down the left field line. Einemann then raced home from second on a deep fly out to center by Noriega. Carmine Petosa capped the inning with an RBI single to center.
  • In the seventh, Grady scored Greger with a double to right to start the scoring. Noriega then hit a towering pop up over the mound that fell for a two-run single. Baruch capped the scoring with a three-run triple to dead center to make it 15-4.
  • The Bears would score three times in the seventh but the Bulldogs added runs in the eighth and ninth. Zyons tripled home Einemann in the eighth and Grady scored Greger with a single in the ninth.

Inside the Box Score (Game 1)

  • Bryant outhit Brown, 17-11.
  • Bryant had nine extra-base hits in the contest.
  • Zyons reached safely all six times with two hits, two walks and two HBPs. He drove in two and scored three runs.

How it Happened (Game 2)

  • Bryant opened the scoring in the third as Brandyn Durand doubled and scored on an Einemann single.
  • The Bulldogs extended their lead in the seventh as Baruch singled and came around to score on a two-out throwing error. Durand made the play happen as he hustled down the line, forcing a wide throw.
  • Brown rallied to tie the game with single runs in the seventh and ninth. Gunner Boree's sac fly scored the first run and DJ Dillehay tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with a single to center.
  • In the 10th, Goldhill pinch hit and singled through the left side. Two batters later, Noriega sliced a single through the left side to score Goldhill.

Inside the Box Score (Game 2)

  • Bryant outhit Brown, 8-5.
  • Durand picked up two hits and scored a run.
  • Einemann collected three hits and drove in a run.
  • Luke Delongchamp struck out five over 7.0 innings of one-run ball. He allowed just three hits and walked one.
  • Sean Zaslaw retired the side in the eighth.
  • Zach Nichols was credited with a blown save but earned the win with 2.0 relief innings. He allowed one run on two hits, walked two and struck out two.

  • Bryant's 17 runs in game one are the most the Bulldogs have scored vs Brown in the series.
