Horvat, Bryant complete weekend sweep of Brown

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Tyler Horvat tossed eight innings of two-run ball as the Bryant baseball team completed a weekend sweep of in-state rival Brown with a 6-3 victory on Sunday at Conaty Park.

The Bulldogs improve to 8-9 overall and have now swept back-to-back weekend series. Bryant will face Sacred Heart on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.

Horvat delivered the best outing of his Bryant career, allowing two runs on seven hits over 8.0 innings. He walked two and struck out six.

Bryant scored four times in the first and never looked back on Sunday. Brandy Durand drove in three runs, while Gavin Noriega and Shea Grady each finished with two hits.

How it Happened

  • Gavin Greger (1B) and Noriega (2B) opened the game with back-to-back hits as Bryant loaded the bases with no outs. Carmine Petosa then single to right to score the first run and Shea Grady followed with a drive off the right field wall to make it 2-0. Durand plated the final two runs with a two-run double past the third baseman.
  • Brown got two back in the second on a home run and a single.
  • The Bulldogs extended their lead in the bottom of the second as Daniel Baruch scored Greger with a ground out to second.
  • Horvat and Gottam then locked horns for the next five innings as the game entered the eighth with Bryant still leading 5-2.
  • Horvat then retired the Bears in order to close his outing. Back-to-back two-out hits from Grady (2B) and Durand (1B) plated an insurance run.
  • Brown would add a run in the ninth but that was all.
