12 baseball alums begin pro seasons

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The 2024 Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball seasons are underway and several Bryant baseball alums are on rosters. Below is a breakdown of all the Bulldogs in pro baseball.

James Karinchak - Player Page
Team: Cleveland
League: MLB

Karinchak is currently on the 60-day IL as he looks to begin his fifth full season in the MLB. He is 12-11 with a 3.10 ERA and 253 strikeouts in 165.2 big league innings. Karinchak has held opponents to a .169 career batting average.

Ryan Ward - Player Page
Team: Oklahoma City
League: Triple-A
Parent Club: Los Angeles Dodgers

Ward begins his fifth pro season with the Dodgers organization, starting the year in Triple-A Oklahoma City. He has produced three-straight 20-homer seasons and owns a career OPS of .795.

Kyle Wilcox - Player Page
Team: Albuquerque
League: Triple-A
Parent Club: Colorado Rockies

Wilcox is the veteran of the #ProDawgs, entering his eighth professional season. After missing 2020 and 2021, Wilcox has returned to form in 2022 and 2023. He owns a 4.09 ERA and has struck out 444 batters in 330.1 pro innings. Wilcox has held opponents to a .200 career batting average. 

Chris Wright - Player Page
Team: Sacramento
League: Triple-A
Parent Club: San Francisco Giants

Wright begins his fifth pro season in the Giants organization. He is currently on the 60-day injured list. Wright is 10-4 with 28 saves and 235 strikeouts in 164.0 career minor league innings. 

Mickey Gasper - Player Page
Team: Portland (Maine)
League: Double-A
Parent Club: Boston Red Sox

Gasper enters his sixth pro season, and his first with the Red Sox organization. The Merrimack, N.H., native played his first five years in the Yankees farm system and owns a career OBP of .377 and an OPS of .800.

Jack Patterson - Player Page
Team: Myrtle Beach
League: Single-A
Parent Club: Chicago Cubs

Patterson will make his return to the mound after missing the last four seasons with injuries. He climbed all the way up to Double-A in 2019 thanks to a dominant performance on the mound. He will begin his third pro season in Myrtle Beach.

Tyler Schoff - Player Page
Team: Harrisburg
League: Double-A
Parent Club: Washington Nationals

Schoff will begin his fourth pro season in the Eastern League with the Harrisburg Senators. He is coming off a strong 2023 in which he earned a late season call-up to Triple-A Rochester. Schoff was 5-4 with 10 saves, a 3.61 ERA and 83 strikeouts in just 62.1 innings last season.

Tyler Mattison - Player Page
Team: Erie
League: Double-A
Parent Club: Detroit Tigers

Mattison will miss the 2024 season with Tommy John Surgery. The right hander put together a dominant 2023 between High-A West Michigan and Double-A Erie. In 22 games with Erie, Mattison went 2-0 and a 1.62 ERA in 33.1 innings. He struck out 46 and allowed just 20 hits.

Brett Wichrowski - Player Page
Team: Wisconsin
League: Single-A
Parent Club: Milwaukee Brewers

Wichrowski is already turning heads in his first full pro season. The righty hit 100 MPH in his pro debut, striking out four over 3.0 innings. 

Coleman Picard - Player Page
Team: TBD
League: TBD
Parent Club: Kansas City Royals

Picard begins his first full pro season with the Royals organization. He made two appearances last season and is awaiting his landing spot to start the 2024 season. 

Collin Lowe - Player Page
Team: Jupiter
League: Single-A
Parent Club: Miami Marlins

Lowe begins his third pro season with the Marlins organization. He is coming off a 2023 season that saw him pitch across all three levels of MILB. He went 7-4 with a 3.68 ERA in 23 appearances (13 starts). Lowe struck out 83 and walked just 24 in 100.1 innings.

Christian Allegretti - Player Page
Team: Staten Island
League: Atlantic League (Independent)

Allegretti is set to begin his third pro season in 2024. The left-hander has signed for another year with Staten Island in the independent Atlantic League. Allegretti made 28 appearances and struck out 43 in 39.2 innings of relief in 2023.
