Bryant clinches series over Binghamton with 10-2 victory on Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Zac Zyons and Matt Smith combined four seven hits and four RBI as the Bryant baseball team clinched a series victory over Binghamton with a 10-2 win on Saturday afternoon at Conaty Park.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 21-11 overall and 10-1 in America East play. Bryant has now won each of its last six weekend series, going 16-1 in that stretch.

Zyons matched his career high with four hits and two RBI, while Smith tied his career high with three hits while adding two RBI and two runs scored. Shea Grady had two hits and two runs and Chris Einemann had two RBI and two runs scored as the bottom third of Bryant's lineup (Smith, Grady, Einemann) had six hits, six runs scored four RBI.

Luke Delongchamp won his fourth game of the season with 6.0 innings of one-run ball. He allowed just four hits, walked four and struck out four. Three relievers held Binghamton to one run on one hit over the final three innings.

Key Moments

  • Smith got the scoring going with an RBI double in the second inning. It would be one of three three-run innings for the Bulldogs.   

How it Happened

  • Baruch was hit by a pitch to start the inning and came around all the way from first to score as Smith doubled down the right field line. Einemann would bring home Smith with a single to center and Gavin Noriega plated Einemann with a sac fly two batters later.
  • Binghamton responded with a run in the top of the third to make it 3-1.
  • In the bottom of the third, Petosa lifted a high fly ball to right center that cleared the wall for a leadoff home run.
  • It would remain 4-1 until the Bulldogs put the game away with three-run innings in the sixth and seventh.
  • In the sixth, Smith doubled to start the inning and scored as Zyons singled to right center. Noriega followed with an RBI single through the left side and Zyons scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-1.
  • In the seventh, Baruch tripled with one out and scored as Smith singled over the head of the second baseman. Einemann added a sac fly and Zyons laid down a perfect bunt to plate the final two runs.
