Noriega, Horvat pick up weekly honors

BOSTON – Bryant baseball senior Gavin Noriega and graduate student Tyler Horvat were named America East Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, on Tuesday.

The duo helped Bryant earn a sweep of preseason favorite Binghamton at Conaty Park, the Bulldogs' third-straight league sweep. Noriega picks up his second-straight honor, while Horvat is a first-time winner.

Noriega went 6-for-12 in four games last week for the Black and Gold. After being held 0-for-2 on Tuesday at UConn, Noriega turned it up vs Binghamton, going 6-for-10 with a double, triple, two home runs and eight RBI. He finished the series with an OPS of 2.167 and reached safely in 10 of his 15 plate appearances.

Horvat spun another gem on Sunday, limiting the league's top offense to two runs on seven hits in a complete game victory. He didn't walk a batter and struck out a season-high 8 in his second complete game. Horvat is the first player since Kevin McAvoy in 2014 to have multiple 9-inning complete games and is the first pitcher since McAvoy with five-straight starts of at least 7.0 innings.

Bryant hosts URI on Tuesday afternoon at Conaty Park. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
