UNRANKED BULLDOGS UPSET #7 UMASS

AMHERST, MA – The Men’s Club Lacrosse team opened the 2023 season on the road at #7 UMass Amherst on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs went down 1-0 early in the first quarter before scoring 4 straight goals to take a 4-1 lead at the half. The Bulldogs were able to hold onto the lead in the second half to secure the biggest win in program history, 7-5. The win earned the Bulldogs the 11th ranking for Division II in the NCLL.

● Brian Wildman: 1 goal

● Joe Chiappetta: 1 goal

● Harry Falowski: 1 goal

● Keo Kiriakos: 1 goal

● Tanner McLaughlin: 1 goal

Highlights:

● Joe Chiappetta scored the first goal of the season for the Bulldogs to tie the game at 1 early in the first quarter.

● The Bulldogs defense of Aidan Hill, Dave Marani, Michael McNeil, and Ethan Hall limited the UMass offense to just one first half goal and five total.

● Freshmen Billy Gardner, Vin Pesce, and Mike Van Luling played important roles on both sides of the field helping the offense score and cause crucial turnovers.

● The Midfield of Brian Wildman, Harry Falowski, and Jason Consiglio combined for 4 of the Bulldogs 7 goals.

● The Bulldogs win moved them from unranked to #11 in the NCLL Division 2 Rankings.

● The Bulldogs are back on the road this week at Quinnipiac for a New England Conference matchup on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 1pm.
