WEATHER WINS AT HEAD OF THE FISH

WEATHER WINS AT HEAD OF THE FISH

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- On Friday, October 26th the girls headed to upstate New York to compete in The Head of the Fish Regatta the following day. This race is always held on the last weekend of October and has been ever since 1986, and winners are awarded decorated mounted fish heads. Unfortunately, there were high winds, low temperatures, and rain that prevented many teams and singles to race--including Bryant’s varsity boats. However, the novice boat had the chance to race and did considerably well!

Results:

Novice 4+: 9th place (out of 21)

Race Info:

  • The novice boat was the only Bryant boat to race at 11:21 AM

  • The temperature was around 37-40 degrees throughout the day with high winds and cold rain--some of the worst weather seen

  • The main goal for the girls was to stay dry and warm by waiting for their race

  • Varsity boats were supposed to start at 3:51 PM, however the entire race was cancelled at around 12

  • The girls packed up quickly and was out of there by 1 PM to arrive back at bryant for 5 PM

Highlights:

  • Despite the weather being less than ideal, the novice girls pushed through it and completed their race!

  • Since Rowing usually has day time races, this race allowed for team bonding as it was an overnight trip and spanned 2 days

Comments:

  • Assistant coach, Jackson Krupnick: “I was really proud of the girls for not complaining and getting out and competing despite some of the worst weather I’ve seen”

Up Next:

  • Bryant Rowing will be heading to Brandeis University in Waltham, M.A. to compete in their final race of the season on 11/3
