HALLOWEEN RACE YIELDS SPOOKY RESULTS

WALTHAM, M.A. -- The Women’s Rowing team headed to Waltham this past weekend to compete against Brandeis University’s team. It was a rainy day, but this time there was luckily minimal wind compared to what the team has been faced with in most of their fall races. Many supporters came out as this was a local race.

Results:

  • V4+: 3rd place - 18:03

  • 2V4+: 1st place - 16:46

  • 3V4+: 4th place - 18:43

  • Novice: 1st place - 19:07

Race Info:

  • The race course had many hard turns which made it extremely difficult for the boats to make efficient turns without losing time

  • The 2V4+ beat the V4+ because they were able to make efficient turns

  • The V4+ had to have one side of their boat stop rowing and continue rowing on one side in order to make the sharp turns

Highlights:

  • This race was a Halloween race, so each boat wore a matching costume

  • Some included: Maroon 5, M&M’s, fruit, and ninjas

  • Brandeis held a cookout after the race was completed as a celebratory end of season wrap up

Quotes:

  • President Jackie Conley -  “Though this race was tough with the windy turns, I’m happy that the girls were able to push through it and finish the race. We can take the times we got and use them as motivation to push ourselves over winter training. We have a solid foundation to go off of as far as the Spring season goes”

Up Next:

  • The women’s rowing team has completed their fall season and will be starting winter training in 2 weeks
