WOMEN'S ROWING SPRING BREAK TRAINING TRIP

WOMEN'S ROWING SPRING BREAK TRAINING TRIP

OAK RIDGE, T.N. -- The team headed down to Oak Ridge, Tennessee over spring break to train and prepare for their Spring season. They took a coach bus from Bryant on Saturday morning to arrive safely in Oak Ridge about 15 hours later. They practiced twice a day on Melton Lake, except for Wednesday when they participated in a ropes course as a team, and on Thursday they took a trip a few towns over in Wartburg to hike. On Friday they paid a visit to Knoxville to explore the city between practices. At the rowing venue, there were schools from all over such as the University of Louisville, Virginia Tech, Men’s Naval Academy, The University of Alabama, Skidmore, The University of Wisconsin, Upper Canada College, and more.

The team had the opportunity to try out rowing in a double (two oars per person) or a pair (one oar per person), which is very different from what they’re used to rowing--which typically is a V4+ boat or a V8+ boat. At the end of the week, they scrimmaged a few teams in a V4+ and V8+ boat and won 2 of the 3 times. The team is looking strong for their upcoming season and plan to be back on the water within the next 2 weeks, but for now, they are still in their winter training season. Their first race will be on April 6th against Merrimack at their home venue (Stump Pond).
