WOMEN'S ROWING OPENS SEASON AT TEXTILE RIVER REGATTA

LOWELL, M.A. -- The Women’s Rowing team headed up to Lowell, MA this past Sunday to compete in their first race of the Fall season. There have been a lot of big changes from the Spring season to now. The team has a new head and assistant coach, they’re competing in a new race at the end of the season, and since they lost six competitive seniors, the team is much smaller. They entered two v4+ boats with all varsity rowers. In the women’s open 4+ race, there were 15 total collegiate teams.

Final Results

1V4+

  • 7th place: 20:34

2V4+

  • 10th place: 20: 58

Race Info

  • The temperature was mild and there was a slight head wind

  • There wasn’t much waiting around like other races, they fired races off with little time in between

  • Many parents, even novice parents, came out to support

Highlights

  • The cox box had a malfunction in one of their boats, so the girls had to conference call in through Bluetooth headphones!

  • Since the wind picked up, it was difficult to dock

  • For the first time, the crews had to do a beach landing where they land parallel to land and must step in the water to lift the boat and carry it up to the trailer

Up Next

  • The team has their next race on Saturday, 10/12 in Worcester, MA competing in the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta
