BULLDOGS REMAIN UNDEFEATED

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – This past Saturday, October 5th, the Bryant University Women’s Rugby team hosted St. Michael’s College in their third match of the season. The Bulldogs demonstrated their excellent teamwork and fortitude throughout each ruck and scrum.  

Final Score

  • Bryant University 72 – 5 St. Michael’s College 

Game Info

  • Nyatasha Jackowicz scored the first try of the match, and an additional one after that. She also completed many of the tackles on the field. 

  • Courtney Wheeler scored a total of four tries out of powerful sprints from Bryant’s 30 line. Most of these derived from the opponent’s kick landing in her hands! 

  • Jennifer Rosinski scored two tries by speeding through the opponent’s line and straight up the middle, refusing to let anybody knock her down 

  • Rylee Van Epps scored a total of three tries, one by running from the 30 line into the try zone, next coming from the middle to the sideline while knocking down an opponent trying to tackle her, then back towards the middle, moving the ball into their half all in less than 15 seconds 

  • Erica Johansson completed four conversion kicks, one originating from the sidelines and landing directly through the uprights 

Highlights

  • Ali Weisheit was named Rookie of the Match in honor of her second game as a Bulldog and her performance in many of the tackles and rucks. The match took place on her birthday as well! 

  • Gabrielle Constanzo received an honorable mention from coach Rosie Downey for actively diving onto the ball at crucial times throughout the match. 

  • Brenna Rojek was named Player of the Match for her vital role in both joining and supporting the rucks. 

  • All of the new members of the Women’s Rugby team have officially made it onto the pitch for their first or second game. 

  • With multiple 70+ meter runs, the Bulldogs dominated St. Michael’s in both rucks and scrums, while also eliminating several opponents who tried to tackle them 

  • The team experienced less injuries than usual, with just a rookie pulling her shoulder, and a veteran hurting her knee and IT band
