ULTIMATE PLACES 2ND OVERALL IN HIGH TIDES TOURNAMENT

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Ultimate Frisbee team headed south to South Carolina to compete in the High Tide Tournament from March 12th-14th. They used this trip as an opportunity to train and get ready for their Spring season. The games played in this tournament don’t count for the regular season, so scrimmaging allows them to see how they stack up against other teams.

Final Score:

  • Day one: 4-0

  • Day two: 4-0

  • Day three: 13-9

  • Overall: Placed 2nd in tournament

Tournament Info:

Day One

  • Went 4-0 on the day against Colgate, Marquette, Ithaca, and Lock Haven

  • Marquette was a rematch of last year’s championship game, although this time they handled the game easily

  • The teams they played weren’t much of a challenge, so they were able to give a lot of freshmen and first-year players experience

Day Two

  • Went 4-0 on Wednesday, beating Lehigh, Richmond, Yale, and North Dakota State

  • Richmond is a very strong D3 team and national championship contender, so it was good competition

  • Game against Lehigh was very physical. Bryant’s zone defense helped them generate turnovers and score points on defense

Day Three

  • Played Colgate again in the quarterfinals

    • After a slow start on a windy day they were able to create turnovers and get a lead that they didn’t give up

  • Played Wesleyan in the semifinals

    • Started very quickly in this game with offense starting out very well, scoring early on against Wesleyan’s tight defense

    • Wesleyan struggled to score and quickly got tired out so the Bulldogs were able to put the game away quickly

    • The championship game was a rematch against Richmond

    • Dogs lost that time, 13-9

Highlights:

  • They placed 2nd for the tournament and are looking forward to the next tournament on Saturday at home

Comments:

  • “After 10 games throughout the week, the team was tired and couldn’t quite get their foot in the game. We fought back early, but ultimately couldn’t get enough stops on defense to win” -- Jake Roy ‘20

Up Next:

  • The Bulldogs have their first regular season game of the year on Saturday March 23rd at 1:00, 2:15, 4:45, and 6:00 at Conaty
