Game Info:
Saturday
Game One:
-
Started the day going up against a strong Dartmouth team
-
Dartmouth is D1
-
The first half was very strong, and got out to an early lead
-
Tried to slow the pace of the game down in the second half, but ended up playing too slowly and allowed Dartmouth back into the game
-
After some mental errors and a lack of concentration, Bryant lost 10-8
Game Two:
-
Played Brown University in the second game of the day
-
Brown is also D1
-
They are a nationally ranked D1 team, placing very highly at D1 Nationals without graduating many players
-
Again, got off to a quick start, and getting out to an early lead
-
Brown made some questionable calls that killed Bryant’s momentum as they fought back into the game
-
Played very hard, but their depth and overall quality was too much to overcome
-
Lost 12 - 7 to Brown
Game Three:
-
Went against another D1 team: Boston University
-
Bulldogs got out to a quick start and kept their foot on the gas the entire game
-
Senior Justin Kunkel made a lot of difficult throws and protected the deep space on defense to ensure they did not allow BU back into the game
-
Able to mix in a lot of newer players to help them get experience and be ready for better competition
-
Dawgs won, 12 - 3
Game Four:
-
Final game in pool play was against MIT
-
Going along with the theme of the weekend, they started out quickly
-
Just before half, they played many new players and MIT started to come back
-
At halftime, the boys put the starters back into the game and did not allow MIT to win
-
Sophomore Ryan Donovan played a lot of meaningful minutes
-
Bryant won, 11 - 9
Sunday
Quarterfinals vs. Tufts
-
Tufts is another very strong D1 team
-
Tufts got out to a quick lead
-
The wind was very strong and made it difficult for the offense
-
Played their signature zone defense and gave Tufts’s offense a lot of trouble, but had problems turning turnovers into scores on offense
-
Senior Zach Tuxbury made a lot of defensive plays to give the Bulldogs possession of the disc
-
Junior Jake Fontes was an offensive force, scoring multiple times by going deep
-
They lost, 15 - 9
Consolation game vs. Boston College
-
Treated this game as a scrimmage, playing mostly younger, less experienced players
-
Everyone saw a lot of game time during this game and there was a lot of improvement throughout
-
Offense struggled to score because the chemistry was not entirely there
-
The defense played well and forced turnovers throughout the game
-
Loss: 13 - 3
Highlights:
-
Though they played D1 teams and didn’t win all of them, they were able to push each other to see what they could do
Comments:
-
“We went to Maine with the goal of winning the tournament like we have in the past and although we didn't quite get there, we played a lot of really good teams and saw a lot of improvement throughout the weekend. I think we’re in a good spot going into the spring season” -- Secretary Jake Roy ‘20
