Game Info

Saturday, October 19

Game One vs Cornell:

•    This was their first game all season where they played as an A team

•    Cornell is a strong division 1 team

•   They started the game very well, jumping out to an early lead by playing zone defense and converting our offensive chances.

•    Billy Gordenstein and Jake Fontes were almost unstoppable on offense, connecting for multiple scores

•   Cornell battled back, but they were able to hold on for the win

•   Final Score: 11-6 Bryant Win

Game Two vs Bates:

•    Bates is a regional rival of theirs, they typically play very close games with them

•   They again jumped out to an early lead by playing strong defense and fast-breaking on offense for scores

•    At halftime, they had secured a lead and began to incorporate the new players into their game plan.

•    Bates mounted a comeback, so they switched our defensive scheme and scored a few quick points to win the game

Game Three vs Tufts:

•    Tufts is a very strong division 1 team, participating in D1 nationals last year

•    This game was very tightly contested and back and forth with both teams forcing turnovers

•    They had a lead at halftime, but couldn’t convert their offensive chances to win the game

•    The boys played very well and had a lot of positive takeaways from this game

•    Final Score: 12-9 Tufts Win

Pre-Quarters vs Harvard:

•    This was an elimination game vs another D1 team

•    Playing four games in one day caused the team to significant fatigue throughout the final game

•    The game was very close in the beginning with both teams scoring consistently

•    They decided to switch from their normal zone defense and instead switch to man to man to take advantage of their athleticism

•    Ryan O’Connor was an integral part of their offense, helping facilitate their flow and convert chances

•    With the score tied 10-10, the final point was winner take all

•    They received the disc, called a set play and executed perfectly. Jake Fontes threw the disc to Jake Roy for the game winning score to advance them to the quarterfinals.

Final Score: 11-10 Bryant Win

Sunday

Quarterfinals vs Brown:

•    Brown is the reigning division 1 champions and one of the best teams in the country

•    They battled hard throughout the game but couldn’t take advantage of their chances

•    The game highlighted some things the team needs to improve on for the spring and provided some building blocks to improve going forward

•    Final Score: 13-6 Brown Win

Consolation Game vs UNH

•    The boys used this game as a way to get the younger players involved and play against the high level competition.

•    They started out very slow and the lack of experience showed

•    After halftime, they settled down and improved their play considerably

•    Final Score: 13-4 UNH Win

Highlights

  • Though they played D1 teams and didn’t win all of them, they were able to push each other to see what they could do

Comments

  • “Although we didn’t win the tournament, we showed a lot of mental toughness and grit in close games against good teams. I think we’re in a very good position going into the spring and have a very good idea of what we need to work on to be contenders for nationals again” – President Jake Roy
