Field Hockey Falls to UMass-Lowell 3-0

Lowell, Mass. - The Bryant Field Hockey team dropped its third consecutive game to the 2005 National Champion UMass-Lowell.

The Bulldogs had several scoring opportunities, especially when they were trailing 1-0, but they were unable to put the ball past Lowell goaltender Nicole Staiti.

Laynie Sadler (Rehoboth, Mass.) led the Bulldogs with four of their six shots on goal.

Kundayi Mawema (Hare, Zimbabwe) made nine saves in the loss, making big save after big save throughout the contest.

"Kundi played tremendously well in goal, and the one goal deficit at the half was a testament to our bend, don't break defense," said Bulldogs head coach Coni Fichera. "Give credit to Lowell's defense, we had some good scoring opportunities with the score 1-0 and even 2-0 but we have not been able to capitalize on our opportunities, but it will come"

Sara Hohenberger broke the River Hawks' career goal scoring record when she beat Mawema in the 58th minute.  She is now four points away from the school's all-time overall points record.

"Lowell is a well-balanced team, with dangerous speed up front in the way of Jaci Moulton who is the perfect compliment to Sara Hohenberger," said Fichera.

Bryant will host American International Saturday (1 p.m.).
