Field Hockey Downs AIC 4-3; Bulldogs Seeded Fifth in NE-10 Tournament

Bulldogs Clinch Fifth in NE-10 with 4-3 Win at AIC

Springfield, Mass. - The Bryant University Field Hockey team concluded its regular season with a 4-3 win at American International Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Bulldogs finish the regular season 11-9 (9-7 NE-10) and in fifth place in the Northeast-10.

Bryant will play at #4 St. Michaels in the NE-10 Quarterfinals Wednesday (2 p.m.)

Senior captain Laynie Sadler (Rehoboth, Mass.) led the Bulldogs with two goals, her 13th and 14th of the season.

Junior Courtney O'Brien (Tewksbury, Mass.) got the Bulldogs going early, scoring in the fourth minute on a shot right in front of AIC goaltender Cindy Armand.

Senior captain Michaela Dwyer (Buskirk, N.Y.) made it 3-1 in the 36th minute, scoring an unassisted goal just 46 seconds after the Yellow Jackets had cut the lead to 2-1.

With the game in hand, freshman goaltender Kundayi Mawema (Hare, Zimbabwe) got the rest of the afternoon off, as Chelsea Pettengill (South Portland, ME.) made her collegiate debut. Pettengill made three saves on five shots, as AIC made a late comeback that was one goal too short.
