Field Hockey Shutout by #1 Bloomsburg 4-0 Saturday

BLOOMSBURG, PA - The Bryant field hockey team was shutout Saturday afternoon by the #1 team in Division II, Bloomsburg 4-0 in a non-conference game. It was the Bulldogs' first loss of the 2007 season.

The win was the 26th straight for the Huskies dating back to last season.

Sophomore goalie Kundayi Mawema (Hare, Zimbabwe) stopped 30 shots, keeping the Bulldogs in the contest throughout.

Samantha Kropa scored the first goal for the Huskies off an assist from Jamie Vanartsdalen 10 minutes into the game. Two minutes later, Vanartsdalen scored to bring the Huskies to a 2-0 lead at the halftime.

With 15 minutes left to play, Ashley Heckard scored off a Vanartsdalen assist. Maggey Bloskey followed shortly after with an unassisted goal for the fourth and final score.

Bloomsburg goalie Allison Ziants saved two shots for the Huskies, including a diving save in the second half against sophomore forward Kelly Frantz (Southburg, CT).

Frantz led the Bulldogs with four shots.

Bryant (1-1, 1-0 NE-10) will take on #8 Mansfield Sunday at noon. The home opener is Monday September 10 against Merrimack College at 7 p.m.
