NEW HAVEN, CT. - The Bryant field hockey team, ranked 10th nationally, made it two wins in as many matches in the Northeast-10 after shutting out Southern Connecticut 2-0 Thursday night.

Sophomore Kundayi Mawema (Hare, Zimbabwe) notched her first shutout of the season, making eight saves in the victory.

Freshman Brandie Simmonds (Shelburne, MA.) posted her first collegiate goal in the 29th minute, taking a feed from senior Shana Libman (Attleboro, MA.) down low and knocking it past Owl goaltender Lauren Zarrella.

Senior Caroline Carr (Wrentham, MA.) gave the Bulldogs some insurance in the 56th minute, as she tipped in a shot from classmate Courtney O'Brien (Tewksbury, MA.). It was Carr's team-high fourth goal of the season.

The Bulldogs also neutralized seven penalty corners by Southern Connecticut.

Bryant (2-2, 2-0 NE-10) will have a quick-turnaround to their next game, with a Saturday afternoon match at St. Michael's, in Colechester, VT. at 1 p.m. The Purple Knights knocked the Bulldogs out of the NE-10 Tournament a year ago.
