#10 Field Hockey Avenges 2006 Playoff Defeat; Downs Saint Michael's 4-2

COLCHESTER, VT. - The Bryant field hockey team, ranked tenth nationally, remained undefeated in the Northeast-10 Conference, after defeating Saint Michael's 4-2 Saturday afternoon.

The victory avenges the 2-1 loss the Purple Knights handed the Bulldogs in the Northeast-10 Quarterfinals last October.

Bryant possessed the ball for most of the game, which led to a first half 1-0 lead, thanks to a penalty stroke goal by Caitlan Johnson (Walpole, MA.) with nine minutes to play in the first half. It was Johnson's first of the season.

Senior Caroline Carr (Wrentham, MA.) made it 2-0 in the 39th minute, scoring her fifth of the season unassisted.

After the Purple Knights cut the lead to 2-1, freshman Kristina Aceto (South Portland, ME) made it 3-1 taking a pass from Johnson and scoring for her first collegiate goal.

Aceto's classmate, Brandie Simmonds (Shelburne, MA.) made it 4-1 seven minutes later, scoring her second in as many games, as Carr notched the assist.

Sophomore Kundayi Mawema (Hare, Zimbabwe) stopped two shots and picked up the win.

The Bulldogs (3-2, 3-0 NE-10) will host Merrimack College Monday night (7 p.m.) in the home opener at the Bryant Turf Complex.
