SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Junior Brittany Glenn (Easthampton, Mass.) scored off a penalty stroke with just 2:57 to play in Friday afternoon's game between Bryant University and Monmouth, breaking a scoreless deadlock to notch the game's only goal and lead the Bulldog field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over the Hawks.

The tally was the defender's first goal of the season and came as the result of a scrum in front of the Monmouth (7-11, 3-4 Northeast Conference) net.

The Bulldogs (7-10) wrap up 2009 conference action with the win, finishing their league slate with an even 4-4 record.

The teams played even ball throughout the game, with the Hawks edging the home side on shots fired, 18-15. Monmouth's Enza Mazza recorded 10 shots, eight on goal, to lead the game despite the loss.

The play of both keepers was extremely strong, with Monmouth's Melissa Katz recording seven stops. But it was Bryant goalie Kundayi Mawema (Harare, Zimbabwe) who really shined between the posts, collecting 13 saves for her fourth shutout victory of the season. She moves to 7-9 on the year.

The Bulldogs look to close out the season on a four-game winning streak as they host La Salle University on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. at the Bryant Turf Complex for Senior Day and the 2009 season finale.
