BRYANT FIELD HOCKEY INKS FIVE-MEMBER CLASS OF 2014

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Bryant University head field hockey coach Shaunessey Saucier is pleased to announce the signing of five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the 2010 season. The quintet of incoming recruits make up the Bulldog field hockey Class of 2014 and will join the Bryant field hockey team in 2010 for its third year of Division I action and first season of full NCAA eligibility. The five-member class includes an addition at every position.

The Bryant University field hockey Class of 2014: 

Kayleigh Ballantyne * Forward * 5-8 * Gorham, Maine / Gorham
High School:
A 2010 graduate of Gorham High School, Ballantyne was a four-year varsity letterwinner for the Rams field hockey team... Led team to the Western Maine Championship title as a freshman in 2006... Three-time all-state selection (2007-2009)... Named an All-SMAA choice as a sophomore, junior and senior... As a senior, broke the Gorham school record for career assists... Team went an impressive 63-7-1 over four seasons... Also lettered in varsity basketball for three years and varsity track & field as a freshman and sophomore... Member of the 2006 state champion 4x100 relay team.

Personal: Daughter of Jean and Bruce Ballantyne, Kayleigh Ballantyne was born January 12, 1992... Has one sister, Keegan, and one brother, Kendrick, who played college football at the UMaine and Northeastern before playing for the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL from 2005-07.


Megan Hancock * Goalkeeper * 5-3 * Skowhegan, Maine / Skowhegan
High School: Three-year starting goalie for head coach Paula Doughty... Led team to a 69-3 record during her four-year career, winning three state championship titles... Also led Skowhegan to an Eastern Maine Championship with a 17-1 record in 2009... Led Indians to Maine state championship game as a senior after allowing just three goals against all season and just one throughout regular-season play... Holds state shutout record, posting 42 in her career... Named a regional All-American and all-state selection as a senior... Also a four-year letterwinner in softball, where she was a member of the Eastern Maine Softball Championship team as a freshman and junior... Member of the U.S. Futures Program since 2004... Plays club for Majestix Field Hockey... National Honor Society member... Earned an academic letter as a sophomore.

Personal: Megan E. Hancock was born Sept. 20, 1992 in Portland, Maine... Daughter of Tim and Donna Hancock... Has one brother, Kyle, and five sisters: Erika, Melissa, Makayla, Mallory and Noelle... Mallory and Makayla will join her on the Bulldog team in the fall of 2010... Sister Melissa is a sophomore field hockey player for fellow Northeast Conference member Sacred Heart.


Mallory Hancock * Forward * 5-2 * Skowhegan, Maine / Skowhegan
High School: Three-year starting forward for head coach Paula Doughty... Led team to a 69-3 record during her four-year career, winning three state championship titles... Also led Skowhegan to an Eastern Maine Championship with a 17-1 record in 2009... Named a regional All-American and all-state selection as a senior... Also a four-year letterwinner in softball, where she was a member of the Eastern Maine Softball Championship team as a freshman and junior... 2009 U.S. Futures Elite selection... Member of the U.S. Futures Program since 2004... Plays club for Majestix Field Hockey... Student Council member... National Honor Society member... Earned an academic letter as a sophomore.

Makayla Hancock * Defense * 5-3 * Skowhegan, Maine / Skowhegan
High School: Three-year starting defender for head coach Paula Doughty at Skowhegan... Led team to a 69-3 record during her four-year career, winning three state championship titles... Also led Skowhegan to an Eastern Maine Championship with a 17-1 record in 2009... Named a regional All-American selection as a junior and senior... Two-time all-state selection (2008 and 2009)... Tied school season record for goals during sophomore and senior seasons... Named a 2009 Miss Maine Field Hockey nominee... Also a four-year letterwinner in softball, where she was a member of the Eastern Maine Softball Championship team as a freshman and junior... Member of the U.S. Futures Program since 2004... Plays club for Majestix Field Hockey... President of the Student Council... National Honor Society member... Earned academic letter as a sophomore.

Olivia Jankins * Midfield * 5-7 * West Brookfield, Mass. / Quaboag Regional
High School: Four-year starting midfielder for head coach John O'Neill at Quaboag Regional... Earned five total letters as she was a member of the varsity team as an eighth grader in 2005... Two-time Central Mass. Division II Player of the Year (2008, 2009)... Led the Cougars to three district championships and the 2007 Massachusetts state title... Two-time team captain... Three-time Worcester Telegram and Gazette All-Star selection (2007, 2008, 2009)... Southern Worcester County League All-Star freshman through senior years... Two-time Telegram and Gazette Super Team selection (2008, 2009)... Also a standout basketball player, earning five varsity letters (was also a five-year starter)... Helped lead basketball team to 2005-06 state championship and four district championships... Two-time county all-star for basketball... Telegram and Gazette basketball All-Star as a sophomore... Class Marshall... Graduated as the class salutatorian... National Honor Society member... Earned First Honors throughout high school career... Class Secretary... Helps coach in local youth basketball league.

Personal: Born August 16, 1992 in West Brookfield, Mass... Daughter of Michael and Maureen Jankins... Has two brothers, Cody and Thomas, and one sister, Shelby... Cody plays baseball for Nichols College... Cousin of Bryant basketball standout Kelsey O'Keefe ('10).
