BRYANT FIELD HOCKEY DROPS 3-2 DECISION AT HOFSTRA MONDAY

HEMPSTEAD, NY - The Bryant University field hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision at Hofstra University Monday afternoon as the Bulldogs let an early two-goal slip away in dropping to 0-2 on the season.

Bryant, looking to bounce back from Sunday's loss to Maine, took it to the host Pride and were rewarded for their hard work as Katherine Andrusin (North Andover, MA) scored the team's first goal of the season just 9:27 into the game.  The sophomore was able to beat Hofstra goalie Amanda Heyde with a low shot.

Sophomore Courtney Landi (Kingston, NY) put the Bulldogs up 2-0 in the 27th minute scoring off a penalty corner after taking a pass from junior Brittany Glenn (Easthampton, MA).

Hofstra (2-0) would put together shortly after Darrah Rachman notched back-to-back goals within a five-minute span to tie the game up at 2-2.

The Pride, who out-shot the Bulldogs 27 to seven in the game, would get the game-winner in the second half as Kristin Thompson scored on a deflection in front of Bryant keeper Kundayi Mawema (Harare, Zimbabwe).  Mawema had a fantastic day in goal for the Bulldogs as the senior made 13 saves in net.

Bryant will return home to host Lehigh for the 2009 home opener next Saturday at 1 pm.
