BRYANT FIELD HOCKEY ROLLS PAST SIENA 3-0 IN NORTHEAST CONFERENCE OPENER

Post Game Interview

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Alex Guisti (Walpole, Mass.) found the back of the net early in the first half on a penalty shot, leading the Bryant University field hockey team (4-9, 1-0 NEC) to a 3-0 victory over visiting Siena College (2-10, 0-1 NEC) Sunday afternoon at the Turf Complex.

Guisiti's first goal of the season proved to be all the Bulldogs needed as they added two more scores, giving the Bulldogs their third-straight win of the 2010 campaign.

Just 10:25 after the penalty shot, Elise Boissoneau (Ashburnham, Mass.)  made her way through several defenders before delivering a pass to Alex Czerniak (Holyoke, Mass.) who ripped a shot past Siena goalie Beth Meyers, giving Bryant a 2-0 heading into the half.

Senior Brittany Glen (Easthampton, Mass.) led a solid Bryant defense to its first shutout this season, and only allowed six shots in the contest. Goalie Jennifer Gullotti (Waltham, Mass.) picked up her fourth win of the season after shutting out the Saints and recording one save.

Head coach Shaunessey Saucier's team picked up where they left off in the second half, firing nine shots to Siena's three and generated three corners.  Courtney Landi (Kingston,N.Y.) recorded her team-high sixth goal of the season in the 48th minute when sophomore Cheidza Mawema (Harare, Zimbabwe) found Landi in front of the net, giving Bryant a 3-0 lead.

Boissoneau, Landi and Brittany Vasconcelos (Tiverton, R.I.) each recorded three shots in the contest while the Bulldogs produced 16 shots as a team.  The Black and Gold registered their first shutout of the season and now have beaten Siena three-straight times, dating back to the 2008 campaign.

Bryant returns to action Friday, October 15 against NEC foe Saint Francis (PA), and is slated for 7:00 p.m. at the Turf Complex.
