Glenn, Mawema named to all-tourney team

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Brittany Glenn (Easthampton, Mass.) and sophomore Chiedza Mawema (Harare, Zimbabwe) recorded another first for the Bryant University field hockey team after the conclusion of a historic season, as the pair was named to the 2010 Northeast Conference All-Tournament Team, as announced by league officials.

The duo is the first to earn such postseason accolades, honors that come just days after the Bulldogs ended their season in their first-ever NEC Tournament appearance. Bryant finished the season 8-12 overall and third in the league standings.

Glenn, a starting defender for the Bulldogs, keeps piling on the honors after being named to the all-conference first team at Thursday night's awards banquet. Bryant's lone first-team representative and one of three all-conference selections, Glenn is the first player in program history to earn a place on the conference's top team in the Division I era. Glenn has started all 20 games anchoring the defense for the Bulldogs, including playing every minute of Friday's NEC Semifinal.

A second-year midfielder, Mawema has come on strong at both ends of the field as of late, and Friday's NEC Tournament game against second-seeded Monmouth was no different. A nine-game starter who has appeared in all 20 contests, Mawema was called on among the starting 11 Friday and made the most of it, recording the assist on Bryant's only goal of the day – an Elise Boissoneau (Ashburnham, Mass.) score just 4:07 into the second half. It was her second assist of the year.
