Bulldogs conclude 2011 campaign at Siena

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University field hockey team concludes the 2011 campaign this Sunday, when it hits the road for a single contest against Siena College on Oct. 30, with game time slated for 12 p.m.

The Bulldogs (7-10, 1-5 Northeast Conference) will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak against a Siena squad that is winless on the season.  The Saints enter the weekend 0-17 overall, with an 0-6 mark in league play.

Bryant has never lost to the Saints in three previous meetings, and will be looking to keep that streak intact on Sunday.  Last year, senior Courtney Landi (Kingston, N.Y.) was one of three different players to find the back of the cage in a 3-0 drubbing over Siena, while the Bulldogs posted identical 3-1 wins in both the 2009 and 2008 season.

Rookie Rosie Bird (Hamilton, New Zealand) will have a chance to add to an already historic first season with the Black and Gold.  The New Zealander currently stands at 29 points on the year by virtue of 14 goals and one assist.  She now ranks fifth all-time for points in a single season and fourth in goals in a single season and points per game (1.71).  With a few more strikes on Sunday, she could very well find herself even higher in all of those categories.

After Bird, senior Emily Charpentier (Walpole, Mass.) is the only other Bulldog who has reached the double-digit scoring range, leading the team with six assists for 10 points (2-6—10).  Sophomore Mallory Hancock (Skowhegan, Maine) has proven to be a clutch performer with a team-high three game-winning goals, as well.

Most recently, Siena fell to Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart, losing 6-1 and 4-0 against both foes, respectively.  Junior Kelly Johansmeyer scored her third goal in six games against the Bobcats, while freshman Katherine Bowie added to her team-high assist total with her fourth of the year.

Sophomore goalkeeper Beth Meyers inched closer to the program's single-season saves record this weekend. She now has 213 on the year, two away from the Siena record.
