Hancock lifts Bulldogs over Colonials, 1-0, in OT Friday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Continuing with its overtime trend of October, the Bryant University field hockey team earned a HUGE, 1-0, win over Robert Morris in extra time Friday in Moon Township, Pa.

Nearly six minutes into the first overtime period, senior midfielder Olivia Jankins (West Brookfield, Mass.) took control of possession and began advancing the ball up the field. Jankins beat multiple defenders before sending a lifted pass into the circle just in time for senior forward Mallory Hancock (Skowhegan, Maine) to tip it in past Colonial keeper Erin McKenzie.

Senior goalkeeper Megan Hancock (Skowhegan, Maine) made seven saves in her second shutout of the season, while McKenzie stopped five Bulldog chances in the loss.

Despite being outshot, 11-9, and earning six less corners than their opposition (11-5), the Bulldogs pick up their 10th win of the 2013 season, and more importantly improve to 3-1 overall in the MAAC.

With just two more league opponents left on their 2013 regular season slate, the Black and Gold have positioned themselves to make a strong run at a MAAC Tournament berth come November. Bryant wraps up the regular season at Quinnipiac on Friday, Nov. 1 before hosting Sacred Heart on Sunday, Nov. 3.
