Saucier and Bulldogs sign six

Bryant University field hockey head coach Shaunessy Saucier is pleased to announce the signing of six student-athletes who will join the Bryant University field hockey team as members of the Class of 2018.

The Bryant field hockey program will welcome forward Grace Farrell (Milford, Pa.), midfielders Anna Kennedy (Macungie, Pa.), Keighan Richardson (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Bethany Winkin (Winslow, Maine) and defenders Camryn Bernheimer (Lewes, Del.) and Hannah Coburn (Lone Tree, Colo.).

As the Black and Gold enter their fifth full season as a Division I postseason eligible program in 2014 and their second in the MAAC, this Class of 2018 signees will look to help Bryant return to the MAAC Tournament in 2014.

"We are thrilled to welcome the incoming Class of 2018", said Saucier. "All of whom will contribute special attributes to our team over the next four years, bringing with them a wealth of experience and talent."

"Not only are they a group of great athletes, they are equally impressive students and will have no problem handling Bryant's rigorous curriculum. We have enjoyed getting to know them all well during the recruiting process, and cannot wait to welcome them to our Bulldog Family. They all have a solid field hockey foundation and have a competitive drive which will undoubtedly enhance our team dynamic."


Camryn Bernheimer | 5-3 | D | Lewes, Del. | Cape Henlopen

A two-year starting defender for Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes, Del. … Helped lead the Vikings to three-straight State Championships and four League Titles … Her team posted a 71-2-1 overall record in her four seasons at Cape Henlopen … Named First Team All-Henlopen Conference and an Academic All-American as a senior … Three-time Academic All-Conference (2011-13) … Member of National Honor Society.

"Camryn comes from a great winning tradition at Cape Henlopen, bringing with her three State Championships", added Saucier. "The experience she gained through winning championships, mixed with competing with the esteemed field hockey club WC Eagles will allow her to adjust smoothly to a college game. She is very fundamentally sound, and with her skill, game knowledge and fitness level, she will be successful playing either defense or the midfield, making an immediate impact on our program."


Hannah Coburn | 5-7 | D | Lone Tree, Colo. | Highlands Ranch

A three-year starting defender/midfielder at Highlands Ranch High School in Highlands Ranch, Colo. … Earned First Team All-State and First Team All-Continental League honors as a senior … Named team captain and Team MVP as a senior … Served as President of National Art Honor Society … Member of National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

"Hannah will compete for time in the backfield, giving us added depth in our defensive unit", noted Saucier. "She plays center back for her high school and club team and has the ability to see the field very well, always making good decisions with the ball."


Grace Farrell | 6-0 | F | Milford, Pa. | Delaware Valley

A four-year letterwinner and starting forward/midfielder at Delaware Valley High School in Milford, Pa. … Helped lead her to the District Championship as a senior in 2013 … A two year captain and two-time team leading scorers … Earned All-State Honorable Mention and First Team All-Wyoming Valley Conference honors as a junior and senior … Also named Academic All-State and was honored with the National Academic Gladiator Award … Member of National Honor Society, Student Council and volunteers with the Special Olympics.

"Grace will add a lot of speed and strength to our forward line", voiced Saucier. "We are excited to begin working with her as her quickness and long reach will benefit us in our press."

 

Anna Kennedy | 5-1 | M | Macungie, Pa. | Emmaus

A two-year starting midfielder at Emmaus in Emmaus, Pa. … Helped lead the Hornets to four-straight District XI Titles and four-straight Lehigh Valley Conference Titles … Also helped her team to a 26-1 overall record and an appearance in the 2013 State Championship as a senior … Earned All-State recognition as a senior … Honor roll student and member of the Young Republicans Club.

"Anna comes from a great winning tradition at Emmaus High School, playing for the legendary coach Sue Butz-Stavin, helping her gain her 800th win this season", stated Saucier. "She is a fierce competitor and has the innate ability to see the field, quickly distribute the ball, tackle, and start dangerous counter attacks. We expect her to make an immediate impact on the program and we are incredibly excited to have her on the field."

 

Keighan Richardson | 5-9 | M | North Attleboro, Mass. | Moses Brown

A four-year starting midfielder at Moses Brown in neighboring Providence, R.I. … Helped lead the Quakers to back-to-back undefeated seasons and State Championships as a junior and senior (2012-13) … Two-time First Team All-State selection as a junior and senior … A three-time RIIL Division I All-Star (2011-13) and 2013 RIIL Tournament MVP … Also lettered in swimming and lacrosse, earning Academic All-American honors for lacrosse as a junior … Member of Spanish National Honor Society and Executive Captains Council. 

"Playing for coach Leslie Caito-Jones at Moses Brown School and for Lead the Way, we have been watching Keighan play for many years and are very excited to welcome her to Bryant", said Saucier. "She has continued to improve over the last couple years playing at a top level. Her fundamental skills, vision, and ability to distribute will make her a vital piece in the midfield."


Bethany Winkin | 5-6 | M | Winslow, Maine | Winslow

Four-year standout a Winslow High School in Winslow, Maine … Earned All-KVAC Honors as a junior and senior (2012-13) … As a senior, earned All-State honors, was named to the Morning Sentinel First Team, and was selected as a Portland Press Herald All-Star … As a junior, earned a Morning Sentinel Second Team honor, named a NE Premier All-Star, and was selected as the Winslow HS Student Athlete of the Year … Also a four-year letterwinner in both swimming and track … Earned NFHCA All-Academic honors as a senior.

 "Bethany has a strong fundamental base and her speed, quickness and mobility with the ball make her a very versatile player", added Saucier. "She will help out program in the midfield, but her ability to attack the circle, and her tackling skills make her an asset anywhere on the field."
