Bulldogs visit Black Bears in search of third straight

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Coming off a perfect 2-0 weekend, the Bryant University field hockey will look to make in three in-a-row when it visits Maine Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Orono.

After a tough start to the 2014 season, the Bulldogs strung together a pair of wins over Homecoming Weekend in Smithfield, topping UMass Lowell and Saint Louis behind huge performances from forward Rosie Bird (Hamilton, New Zealand) and MAAC Offensive Player of the Week Abigail Armstrong (Mahopac, N.Y.). The duo combined for six goals and two assists (of seven total goals) over the weekend, highlighted by Armstrong's first-career hat trick vs. Saint Louis on Sunday.

Bryant's lone contest of the week comes on Saturday when it visits Maine for an afternoon showdown. In search of their first win since Aug. 29 vs. Central Michigan, the Black Bears have dropped five one-goal games in-a-row. Sophomore Danielle Aviani leads her team with nine points on four goals and an assist, while junior Cassidy Svetek has scored three goals and assisted on one. Sophomore Emily Corbet and Emma Cochran have split time in net through six games, combined for a 2.14 goals against average. Last season in Orono, the Black Bears scored in the very last second of regulation to knot the game, 2-2, forcing extra time where the hosts stole a 3-2 victory off a rebound goal from Aviani.
