Golden Bears top Bulldogs, 7-2, on Sunday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University field hockey team (0-2) was defeated by the University of California, Berkeley (1-1) in a goal-packed match, resulting in a, 7-2, Golden Bears victory.

Janaye Sakkas put Cal on the board, scoring off a Sydney Earle assist from the left halfway through the first period. 

Victoria Danby (Lancaster, Mass.) responded for the Bulldogs, hammering home a Mikayla Fitzmaurice (Skowhegan, Maine) assist from the left side. 

The Golden Bears finished off the first half with goals from Nicole Henriksson and Marie Lanckneus, making the scrore, 3-1, at the break.

Danby tallied her second score of the day in the 41st minute, aided by senior defender Nicole Plante (Smithfield, R.I.)

Sakkas also captured her second score off of a Clara Goni assist in the 45th minute of the match.

The Golden Bears would finish the game with three unassisted goals from Maddie Ashbrook (53'), Bella Forbes (61') and Melina Moore (65'), resulting in a, 7-2, Cal victory. 

Senior goalkeeper Jenna Limone (Bradfort, Conn.) took the loss, playing the full 70 minutes for the Bulldogs. 

The Black and Gold tallied nine shots with the team high of three by freshman Emily Perryman (Lebanon, N.H.)

The Bulldogs quickly return to play for the third and final game of the California roadtrip tomorrow, Monday, August 31 against UC Davis at 3 p.m. ET.
