Danby's pair of goals were not enough for Bulldogs to defeat Explorers Sunday morning

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Despite the offensive effort by Victoria Danby (Lancaster, Mass.), the Bryant University field hockey team was unable to defeat La Salle, losing 3-2 in Smithfield on Sunday morning.

The junior forward found the tying score twice in the match, keeping the Bulldogs (3-14, 1-3 MAAC) in the game, but a late goal by the Explorers (8-8, 4-3 A-10) left the Black and Gold with little time to respond.

Megan Kida found Eileen Dzwill for the Explorer's game-winning goal, scoring in the 66th minute of play.

La Salle was first on the board, after Mackenzie Karcher went unassisted, finishing a deflection off the keeper into the back of the cage.

Nearly a minute and a half later, Emiko Barker (Hatfield, Mass.) connected with Danby in the circle, who notched her first score of the day, tying the match, 1-1, in the 22nd minute.

Right before the half, Jenica Miller inserted the ball to Kendall Kreider, who took one touch, then ripped a shot from the top left of the circle, putting the Explorers up by 1.

In the 51st minute, Danby recorded her second score of the game and 12th of the season, receiving the feed from Barker and finishing from right in front of the cage.

Freshman keeper Marissa Elizardo (New Wales, Pa.) finished with six saves, while the Explorer's goalie Rachel Hartman recorded four.

The Black and Gold return to action on Friday, when they take on Rider, under the lights in Smithfield.
