COACH DE VRIES' COMMENTS

"I'm very happy with how our team played today," Bryant head coach Joppe de Vries said. "We have a small team and were short a girl, making us even smaller. I think our defensive unit played great. They played 70 minutes because they had to, and did a great job. Miranda also had a great game and really kept us in it."

KEY MOMENT

With 18 seconds left in regulation, Providence's Allie Lancaster scored off of a redirected shot to give the Friars the lead. Despite a quick push from the Bulldogs offense, they were unable to put one in the net to even the score.

SCORING SUMMARY

  • 5th minute – Bryant 1, Providence 0 – Sophomore Floor van Dommelen (Berg en Dal, Netherlands) scored a goal off of a perfectly executed corner inserted by senior Keighan Richardson (North Attleboro, Massachusetts) and stopped by junior Victoria Newbill (Wilton, Maine).
  • 14th minute – Bryant 1, Providence 1 – PC's Mikayla Michals scored after Manon Van Weezel dribbled into the net and fired toward the goal. Michals redirected the shot to send it into the back of the net to tie the game.
  • 32nd minute – Bryant 2, Providence 1 – Sophomore Freya Ward (Haywards Heath, West Sussex, England) redirected a shot sent in by van Dommelen to score her first goal of the year. The shot came after a Bryant corner that was inserted by Richardson and again stopped by Newbill.
  • 48th minute – Bryant 2, Providence 2 – The Friars scored the game-tying goal after Olivia Ward dribbled in front of the goal and passed to Natalie Mitchell who shot to the right of the goal for the equalizer.
  • 70th minute – Bryant 2, Providence 3 – Lancaster's shot with 18 seconds left came in a frenzy in front of the goal when Van Weezel passed across the goal mouth to Lancaster, who shot into the net for the game-winning goal.

STATS/NOTES

  • Sophomore Miranda Grundy (Smithfield, Rhode Island) made a game-high five saves in goal for the Bulldogs. Grundy also kicked away a handful of loose balls in front of the goal to show her presence on the field.
  • Junior Emily Perryman (Lebanon, New Hampshire) tracked down a ball rolling toward the cage and swatted it away to pick up her second defensive save of the week. The stop kept the game tied at two.
