Bryant battles Vermont to 1-0 loss on Friday afternoon

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman goalkeeper Lyndsay Swanston (Burlington, Ontario) made three saves in her second-career start, but the Bryant University field hockey team fell to the Vermont Catamounts 1-0 on Friday afternoon at Goldberger Family Field in Providence.

COACH DE VRIES' COMMENTS

"We played well today," Bryant head coach Joppe de Vries said after the game. "We worked a lot on one-on-one defense this week, and the team really showed that they took it to heart. It was a tough opponent, and I'm really glad we were able to keep ourselves in the game. The next step is to offensively get more opportunities. Once we do, we'll score goals and then the game will get really fun."

KEY MOMENT

With less than three minutes in regulation, Keighan Richardson (North Attleboro, Massachusetts) inserted a corner to Floor van Dommelen (Berg en Dal, Netherlands) who fired a shot toward goal. Vermont goalkeeper Lena Benwood made a great play to her left to save the ball and keep Bryant off the scoreboard.

SCORING SUMMARY

• 48th minute – Vermont 1, Bryant 0 – Vermont forward Landon Warren created space toward the right of the Bryant goal and was able to fire a shot past Swanston to get the Catamounts on the board. It was Warren's seventh goal of the season.

STATS/NOTES

• Friday's game was the lowest scoring of the season for Bryant. The previous low was three goals, a 2-1 loss to UC Davis.
• The game was also the fewest goals that Bryant has given up this season. The goal by Warren was Swanston's lone blemish on an otherwise great performance.
