Newbill selected for Young Women's National Championship

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University field hockey rising senior Victoria Newbill (Wilton, Maine) has been selected to compete in the 2018 Young Women's National Championship at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

This marks the second-straight year that Newbill has been selected to compete in the prestigious tournament with some of the best young field hockey players in the country. Newbill is one of just 120 players in the country to earn a spot and will be a member of Team Courage. She is scheduled to play her first game on Tuesday, June 26 against Team Gold.

"I am extremely proud that Vicky has done it again!," head coach Joppe de Vries said. "She deserves a spot in this group. Her dedication, fitness and continually growing skills are what make her unique. For Bryant Field Hockey, it is great to have a player getting this exposure and I am confident that in the next few years Bryant will deliver more and more!"

Newbill shined at last year's event and received an invitation to try out for the USA Development Squad at their national camp. She carried that success into her junior season at Bryant and had a phenomenal year for the Black and Gold. Newbill earned All-MAAC First Team honors after enjoying a career year. She potted two goals and added a career-high four assists to finish the year with a career-high eight point. Newbill played in and started all 19 games for the Bulldogs, one of only four players to do so.

"This year when I found out I made it to the YWNC, I felt completely grateful and blessed for my selection," Newbill said. "The opportunity to play with/against some of the best collegiate athletes in the country is so humbling and exciting.

"This time around, my game is all about confidence in myself and my abilities, as well as, learning all I can from the coaches and players I will be around," Newbill continued. "I am excited to represent Bryant, especially my teammates and the program we are each working so hard to build. I am so grateful for everyone who continually reaches out in prayers, love, and excitement for me with every new opportunity I am faced with."

The Young Women's National Championship is a high-level, international structured competition which serves as a selection opportunity for the 2017-18 U.S. U-21 Women's National Team, U.S. Women's National Development Squad and the U.S. Women's National Team.
